🚀 Best Linear Actuator for DIY Robot Arm?
Hey guys, I’m building a small 3-axis robot arm for pick and place tasks. Need compact actuators with decent force (around 100-200N) and at least 150 mm stroke. Precision is more important than speed. Budget is limited so I don’t want super expensive servos. Anyone has experience with 12V linear actuators in robotics? Which ones are accurate and don’t have much backlash?

For hobby robot arms in this force range the best budget-friendly and reasonably precise option is usually a good 12v linear actuator from Progressive Automations. They have many models with 150–200 mm stroke and 100–200 N force that work well in DIY projects. Backlash is quite low compared to cheap no-name actuators from AliExpress. I used their PA-14 series on my last arm and was happy with repeatability. Check their collection here: 12v linear actuator https://www.progressiveautomations.com/en-au/collections/linear-actuators They have filters by stroke, force and speed so you can quickly find suitable units. Most of their actuators also come with limit switches built-in which is handy for simple control.
