Fixing a Leaky Home

I’d try to find a main contractor rather than booking separate trades one by one. When my cousin had moisture issues in his place, the biggest headache was not the building work itself, it was coordinating inspections, design changes, consent stuff and the actual repairs. With leaky homes, you often don’t know the full picture until the old cladding is opened up, so it helps to have a team that can handle residential remediation, recladding and any renovation work that comes out of it. I remember him checking because they’re Auckland-based and talk about managing reclads and renovations from the early planning stage through to construction and compliance, which is the kind of setup I’d want for a job like that.

I’ve noticed bigger home projects usually feel less stressful when there’s one clear point of contact. Even if architects, council inspections, builders and other trades are involved, having someone coordinating the order of things makes the whole process feel a lot less chaotic.
